Just a year ago, Facebook seemed like a non-existent social networking site with few applications and features to deal with. But as time passed by, it has earned so many followers and investors. Its application population has increased very much since it started. Many companies and businesses started using this social networking site as a means for their advertisements and customer relations. With all the changes in Facebook and its success, the social networking site has finally decided to filter all the application coming in.

Facebook now requires all application developers and creators to pass authentication, either through a sms message or a credit card. Facebook would not charge the credit cards so there shouldn’t be any worries about giving out credit cards for registration. Though this idea and process may seem weak considering the number of application makers everyday and the number of companies making money out of Facebook, this is still considered a good step on filtering useless and illegal programs.

The authentication does not only cover applications but large video uploads too. Because of Facebook’s growth and success, many people take advantage of the social networking site, turning it to a spam fest of games and quizzes that people aren’t really interested in. Facebook itself has a hard time keeping up to what applications actually run in the network without this authentication process.

This new requirement does not only benefit Facebook in keeping track of their programs, it can also benefit all the people using the social networking site. With this new strategy of keep things clean and legal, there are less scammers going about the website. At least now, users can be assured of a scam-free and spam-free browsing.

Another good thing this authentication can do is to lessen the applications coming in Facebook. I know the “more the merrier” but with hundreds of new applications weekly, we can’t possibly play every single one of them. Other sites should also do the same thing especially for big networking sites like Facebook. Many people have been using these social networking sites for scamming and spamming especially now that internet marketing is getting very popular and effective.

It’s good to hear that Facebook is finally doing something to have all their programs under control. By the looks of it, we can now see more applications that are worth both our time and money.
